School of Rock Poster Analysis

The genre of this film is a cross genre between music and comedy. In the poster the prop of a guitar is held by the protagonist  (Jack Black) This clearly establishes the music genre of the film as he is clearly in the centre playing the guitar. The music genre is rock which is an incredibly popular genre. By associating the rock genre with a school provides a comic twist as fans of rock are stereotypically adult males with long hair. Therefore, to see a classroom full of primary school students who look as if they're in a band is funny as it's something the consumer wouldn't expect.  The title graphics have been written in a way that is similar to the Rolling Stone magazine and the poster itself is laid out in a way that is mimicking how the Rolling Stone magazine is laid out. It is very clear that Jack Black is starring in the film. This is shown through the large picture of him in the poster and how in the words 'Mr. Black' can be seen below the main title. His name is placed here as it is near one of the main focal points of the poster. The key image on the poster is Jack Black himself. He has been chosen to dominate the poster as he is the protagonist of the film and also a marquee name. I believe the target audience for this film is teenagers and young adults.

Narrative:
The main clues about the narrative can be seen from both the title and the images. The name 'School of Rock'' heavily implies that the film will involve a school thatteaches rock in some way. As the consumer looks below this to see Jack Black dressed formally as if he was a teacher they can easily make the link that he will be the teacher. In contrast to the typical teacher image Jack lack is seen holding a guitar and pulling a 'typical rock' face as if he's really feeling the music. His body language also tells the consumer that he is confident and comfortable with playing music. The fact that the students are shown behind Jack lack makes them seem a lot smaller which gives the audience the impression that they are less important in the film than Jack Black - but are still key characters.

Other Characters:

The mise-en-scene of the stock characters (the school children) clearly tells the audience a lot about their personalities. They are all wearing customised school uniforms which after being customised seem to show off more of a personality from each character. This immediately makes them seem more interesting (as if they were all in normal school uniform they would not be portraying the typical rock image) and not just 'typical' school children.

Colours:

The colour white takes up all of the background.r. Although, brown, grey, red, green and a little bit of yellow is seen. These could be referred to as stereotypically colours that boys prefer which in turn makes them seem more suited to the rock genre.
